About the SSP

The Society was inaugurated in 1959 by a group of physicians led by Dr Fitzgerald Peel, a Senior Physician based at the Victoria Infirmary, Glasgow and one of the country’s first Cardiologists.

The Society is an educational charity which promotes postgraduate education and collegiality amongst physicians in Scotland. Each year from 1959, the Society has held an Annual General Meeting. The meetings include research presentations and keynote lectures from national experts and provide an unrivalled opportunity for continuing professional development for all physicians.

The Society now incorporates trainees in General Medicine and all its sub-specialities, as well as associate specialists and specialist doctors.

Where is your data stored?

Any data collected through this website for the Scottish Society of Physicians (hereafter SSP) is held at the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. The SSP is the data controller for any data relating to SSP membership, travel & research grants, and their annual meeting. Accessing your data

To make an informal request for any personal information we may hold you should in touch with the SSP administrator at the contact details provided below.
Additionally you can find out which personal information we hold by making a ‘subject access request’ under the GDPR. Where we hold information about you we will provide:

  • A description of what we hold.
  • An overview of why we are holding it.
  • Details of who it could be disclosed to.
  • A copy of the information in a suitable format within 30 days.

If you agree, we will try to deal with your request informally, for example by providing you with the specific information you need over the telephone.
